Valid Data for Tracking and Reporting Child Developmental Progress Provided by Galileo Pre-K Online

Galileo Pre-K Online provides valid, research-based information on child growth that may be used to inform instruction and to communicate progress in child development to families, as well as to early childhood education policy makers. ATI uses Item Response Theory (IRT) techniques to provide a continuous Developmental Level (DL) score providing a measure of progress towards school readiness. DL scores are placed on a common scale over time and can be used to measure growth and to document a program's impact on a child's learning. Because Galileo supports continuous observational assessment, this ability score can be calculated at any point in time. When we know a child's developmental level as summarized by the DL score, we then know what the child has already learned and what the child is ready to learn now and in the future. This information provides the basis for planning learning opportunities that are appropriate to the child's current level of development. In addition, the DL score is useful in documenting and reporting program outcomes, for example, as part of accountability initiatives communicated to policy makers and the public.
