The Assessment and Instructional Design Department plays a large role in the ATI mission of helping educators improve student performance. The department creates written content including test items and instructional dialogs aligned to state academic standards and local instructional goals. The data collected from the assessment tools can be used by client-district staff to inform instruction. Instructional dialogs include the capability to track the outcome of instruction.
Position Description:
The primary function of the Assessment and Instructional Design Specialist for English Language Arts and Social Sciences is to prepare written language arts and social sciences content for the Galileo K-12 Online Instructional Improvement System. Currently, the content under development includes language arts and social sciences assessment items and instructional content written to conform to specifications aligned to state academic standards. The Assessment and Instructional Design Specialist will be provided with guidelines and resources to assist in developing content and will be involved in the refinement of the item development process.
Applicants for this position will need a thorough understanding of language arts and literature as well as a strong background in history and government. In addition, the qualified applicant will have both strong writing skills and experience in instructional methods and curriculum planning related to social sciences and language arts instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create item prototypes and items in Galileo K-12 Online Test Builder to measure specific academic objectives through online/offline assessment
- Create instructional materials and resources for use by teachers
- Assist in the development of item specifications to generate consistent measurement of the objectives
- Collaborate with other content specialists for the purpose of editing and review of items
- Create supplementary materials (including but not limited to: images, short text, diagrams) to assist in the measurement of objectives
- Use, modify, and/or create scales to be used in the construction of tests
- Assist in creating measurements and materials for offline assessment of the objectives
- Communicate with Assessment and Instructional Design Director regarding progress, necessary tools and resources, and issues relating to the efficient and successful development of item and instructional dialog banks
Minimum Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Excellent writing skills in the educational content area of language arts and social sciences
- Close attention to detail in editing and revising one's own work and the work of others
- Extensive knowledge of language arts particularly in the areas of instructional methods related to reading and language acquisition, six-traits writing rubric, and grade-level appropriate text selection
- Extensive knowledge of social sciences particularly in the areas of instructional methods related to U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, Geography, Psychology and elementary school social sciences
- Knowledge of grade-specific language arts and social science curricula
- Strong Windows-based computer and Internet search competencies
- Additional essential professional skills include:
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Strength in organization, decision-making, oral and written communication
- Resourcefulness and careful attention to detail
- Ability to learn and apply new skills rapidly and effectively
- Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and management
