Instructional Efficiency and Effectiveness

With the integration of instruction and assessment within Galileo, instructional efficiency and effectiveness can both be measured in terms of expected progress associated with a given amount of instruction.

Instruction is efficient when the amount of instruction required to achieve or exceed expected progress is small. Instruction is effective when expected progress is met or exceeded even if a large amount of instruction is required. The distinction between efficiency and effectiveness is beneficial because it provides information that can inform resource allocations required to meet progress expectations.

The continuous analysis of efficiency and effectiveness supports as-needed curriculum changes designed to increase both efficiency and effectiveness. Galileo provides educators with continuous efficiency and effectiveness data in support of enhanced student learning.

A Dashboard for All Your IE Needs

The Galileo Instructional Effectiveness Dashboard provides the tools for administrators to manage the implementation of rating scales as well as a place for educators to access proficiency rating results, current student growth and achievement results, and compiled evaluation data. In addition to identifying the proficiency levels of teachers and administrators at the end of the year, the Dashboard can help inform professional development decisions in support of enhanced student learning throughout the year.

State-of-the-Art Statistical Analyses

ATI uses state-of-the-art Item Response Theory (IRT) techniques to provide Developmental Level (scale) scores supporting the measurement of student growth and achievement. ATI also conducts statistical analyses to establish the reliability and validity of Galileo assessments for use in educator effectiveness initiatives. Additionally, ATI uses Categorical Growth Analysis to evaluate whether expected growth was exceeded, maintained, or not maintained for various groups of students.

Actionable Reports

Actionable Galileo reports support educators in maximizing instructional effectiveness to elevate student learning. For example, the Student Growth and Achievement widget on the Teacher Dashboard provides the results of the Categorical Growth Analysis as well as a graphical cross-classification of students based on their growth between two tests and their achievement on the second test. This graphical summary is designed to facilitate the identification of student groups for intervention and enrichment (e.g., high performing students showing inadequate growth, low performing students showing exceptional growth).

Customizable Rating Scales

Galileo supports the ability for educators to develop, customize, administer, and manage implementation of teacher and principal evaluation tools. The system includes educator rating scales aligned to the InTASC* and ISSLC*. Additionally, state, local, or third-party (with permission) rating scales may be imported and aligned to standards for use in Galileo.
